Shahbaz Synopsis

PROPOSAL 1:
TITLE: URBAN FARMS (FARMTECTURE)
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
To meet the challenges of less available cultivated land around large cities and expected food shortage and increase in prices in near future, also to use urban food cultivation as an architectural experience.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
Ø  Literature review.
Ø  Interviews of related persons.
Ø  Interviews of Architects.
Ø  Case studies.

PROJECT BRIEF:
In this project we are using new cultivation method as an architectural design language not only to support human population with their most essential need “food”, but also as an architectural and a recreational landscape experience.
Over the last decade we have came to realization that we live in a planet with limited resources. Like fossil fuel, food would be short in supply and this will lead us to higher prices. Prime objective to deal with that issue is that our food output is not in proportion to our population increase. Reason for it is environmental degeneration and climate change.
Proponents say that vertical farming can help solve the impending world food shortage. By 2050, the UN predicts that the global population will surpass 9 billion people. Given current agricultural productivity rates, the Vertical Farm Project estimates that an agricultural area equal in size to roughly half of South America will be needed to feed this larger population.

This is where the concept of urban farming, cultivating food inside city comes in. it give us the possibility to produce our vegetables in a more effective, healthier and clean way.
The designs principle intent is to explore production and consumption of food within the confine of an urban vertical setting thus eliminating transport. Processing and distribution takes place on premises allowing residences to be immersed in the production of the food they consume. Excess food is sold in retail spaces for the city.
This project also as a Vertical Landscape will create an exchange between rigid urban grids of highly populated city and will add a “soft” landscape through a series of vertical experiences.
Placing this in urban landscapes also reduces the green house emissions that would normally be needed to transport produce from rural farms to city centers. Would be topped with wind turbines as well, to create an energy sustainable landmark that is economically, socially, and agriculturally productive.

The site would preferably be located at Karachi, along the sea line there is provisions of high-rise and multipurpose building construction.

The idea is to provide an honorable living by wasting less space and accommodating more families in a single unit space by designing a luxurious apartment complex using the concept of multipurpose spaces design specially the flexible interior’s options.
The complex has the different types of housing unit. Recommended Design would be energy efficient, self sustainable, so that energy crisis may also be addressed.
The site for this project is at Karachi along the coast line where this is need have the time to build such apartments. Another edge of the beach construction would be the greater opportunities extraction from the sea and sand to produce its own energy

2.  USES OF SPACES UNDER FLYOVERS:
3. WATER SCRAPER (WATER URBANISM):
4. SUSTAINBLE FUTURE CITY:
